DT Friday with Jessica

I have loved playing with the new Unity Kits I purchased.  They have so many wonderful stamps and the creative ideas are rapidly coursing through my being.    I have loved all of the fab projects I have seen people create using some of the stamps and wanted to put my own little twist on them.

The jar stamp from the December KOM~ Filled with Love (see picture below)  is so versatile.  I have seen it filled with hearts, buttons, and even a city landscape on others' creations.  I thought to myself, "How am I to do something a bit different?"  I quickly thought about when I was younger.  Even now as a mother, I have saved old jars for the kids to catch fireflies and grasshoppers in the summer months.  Well, one of the stamps in the August 2009 KOM~Following My Heart (see picture below) was a dragonfly.  PERFECT!

So I started with my Pearl c'oredinations card stock as my base.  I stamped the dragonfly spontaneously onto the cs and then sanded the front.  I masked some flower dp, that I embossed with a flower embossing folder, onto black card stock.  Then I did the same with my sentiment you make my heart flutter  (also from the  August 2009 KOM~Following My Heart).   I stamped the jar onto a cream cs,  stamped the dragonfly to appear like he was inside the jar, and then painted him in with some Alcohol Inks.  I mounted an empty stamped jar behind the top layer for for extra dimension.  I added glitter to the lid, glossy accents to the jar, and a bit of MME Stella Rose Doiley Lace Ribbon underneath the jar.  I affixed a few roses and a lace paper heart (that I inked up a bit with some TH Antique Linen and misted with my handmade glimmer mist in blue).

I am quite pleased with how it turned out and I can't wait to use this adorable KOM again.  If you are not already a fan of Unity, you may want to check out their fabulous stamps.  They are constantly having sales and their FB page is always buzzing with activity!!!  And to let you know, they don't pay me to say this.  This is truly my honest opinion regarding their products!!!

Luisa's 3D Project - Pillow Box

Hi Divas!!!  Diva Luisa here...

Today I want to share my 3D that I did for Michelle's challenge!  A Pillow Box...

I used the CTMH Art Philosophy cricut cartridge pillow box template as well as the rossette flowers template.
I need to confess!  I cheat a little for this challenge...  besides the challenge I had to create 9 pillow boxes for a swap, so I decided to "kill to birds with one shot".

Since this was a big project and there was no crop coming soon, I decided to schedule "sessions"

SESSION 1 - "cricut session" for about 1 hour and cut 10 pillow boxes and 30 rossette flowers.
SESSION 2 - "cutting session" for another hour.  This time I cut the scallop borders, the pattern paper that goes in the middle and both ribbons.
SESSION 3  - "folding and gluing session" {this time in front of the TV in my living room with my family} for about one and half hour to fold and glue the 10 boxes (did an extra one of course) and the 30 flowers plus added the pearls.
SESSION 4 - "assembly session" for about 50-60 mins in my sb table to finish them up and am ready to swap and post!
FINISH, DONE, TERMINADO, FINITO!!!

Here is a picture of the 30 flowers with the pearls while drying...

The purpose of writing to you about the process I followed is to share with you that we can work on big projects "scheduling shor sessions".  We are mothers, daughters, sisters and we have commitments.  Not all the time we can dedicate 4-5 hours to create.  But if we "break the elephant into byte sizes, we can eat it all".  Yes we can!!!

Please share with us how you tackle "big projects"...
